Kamen Estate is located at elevations reaching 1100' to 1450' in the southwestern Mayacamas Range, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Veeder, with the Napa County line less than a quarter of a mile away. This mountainous terrain was formed by ancient volcanic activity. Four different lava flows defined the area creating soil variations so extreme, that one end of a vine row can be markedly different from the other end providing a complex range of growing conditions. With the shallow depth of soils and prevalence of rock, the vines fight for survival, creating intense, flavorful fruit.
