Chalk Hill Appellation

Dec. 15, 2010

On the northeast side of Windsor, extending along a short stretch of the Russian River is the Chalk Hill area, planted to 1,000 acres of vineyards. Chalk Hill abuts the Alexander Valley and Knights Valley AVAs.

The name comes from the blanched volcanic ash hillsides that form the base of the Mayacamas Mountains.

Varietals include: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, plus Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

There’s an expansive African wildlife park within this AVA.
