Water Buffaloes... in Tomales?
One of the latest efforts of farmstead cheese-making in our region takes an unusual yet traditional tack.
On a grassy hilltop in Tomales, California, Craig Ramini has taken his vision of handcrafting mozzarella cheese and made it a reality. But this is no ordinary cheese, nor ordinary man for that matter—Ramini Mozzarella is being produced in the traditional method using domesticated water buffalo milk from the herd that Ramini has raised.

Tucked into the gentle hills, Sleepy Hollow was aptly named and where the Hollow ended, there stood horse riding and training stables.

The good ones become community institutions that create a positive impact on economic development, education, culture and more. Let’s take a close look at two local arts centers and check in with four more that serve as creative hubs in their areas.
Reading Between the Lines
Those kids in school, the ones who always had their nose in a book—skilled at walking while reading, never looking up or bumping a corner—well, they grew up. One half of them are rocket scientists, but the remaining ones were fortunate enough to become independent bookstore owners.
